WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (localmemphis.com) – It was a big surprise for Boys and Girls Club organizations in West Memphis Thursday.
A check for more than $100,000 was presented to the city and Mayor Marco McClendon from Southland Casino Racing.
As a show of appreciation for the company, McClendon honored Southland’s CEO by giving him a key to the city.
“Southland has invested $250 million in West Memphis, and believe it or not, it has been a good economic tool for other industries and restaurants that are looking to come to West Memphis,” said McClendon, “… because other people have seen what they are investing in this community and what they are getting ready to do. Also, they are probably one of the biggest – probably the biggest – employers for the city of West Memphis, so they help the people of West Memphis be able to provide for their families.”
Mayor McClendon also proclaimed September 19th as “Southland Casino Racing Day” for its many years of philanthropic contributions to the West Memphis community.
