“A Betor Way” provides help for drug users

Local Health Alert

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – One out of every five young adult deaths is due to overdosing on opioids.

Friday night volunteers with the organization “A Betor Way” reached out to drug users. They set up in a parking lot at Shelby Oaks and Sycamore View in northeast Memphis.

About 50 to 75 people show up every Friday to exchange dirty needles for clean ones and to get the antidote Narcan. We talked with a former drug user who now volunteers.

“After I got into recovery, I started working in the substance abuse field. So it’s nice to see people that change and that want the help if they want it and to give people hope that there is a different way if they want too,” said Katherine Reed.

A Betor Way also provides food and care packages and works with other organizations to help users get into detox and rehab.
