MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – The Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium was flooded with a sea of pink Sunday afternoon to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer.
The 19th annual American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk/run took place Sunday afternoon, and Local 24 was a proud sponsor.
The Good Day Memphis team was out there getting runners and walkers pumped up.
Last year 10,000 walkers in Memphis helped to raise more than $500,000. Organizers expect this year to garner even more support.
“Money goes toward research. It goes toward helping for education and awareness, so just a great opportunity, and it affects so many people in our community. Cancer affects everyone, whether it’s a mother, it’s an aunt, it’s a sister, it’s a loved one, it’s a spouse,” said Randall Melton, Kroger Vice President of Merchandising.
Last year ACS helped 34,000 cancer patients through their journey.
