Eye injuries from non-lethal firearms, like paintball and BB guns, jump 30%

Local Health Alert

Eye injuries from firearms like paintball and BB guns have jumped more than 30%, according to a new study published in Pediatrics.

Researchers combed through statistics from a national database on electronic injuries between 1990 and 2016. Anytime a nonpowder firearm, like BB, airsoft, paintball, and pellet guns, sent a child to the hospital, researchers counted it toward the total.

During the 26-year time period, more than 360,000 children were injured by direct contact with the guns. BB guns accounted for more than 80% of those injuries.
