MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – A wellness center featuring Pilates, yoga, and mediation studios is opening soon on the UT Health Science Center campus.
The 3,200 square foot space is currently under construction on the second floor of the Student-Alumni Center on campus.
The Mind-Body Wellness Center is in addition to UTHSC’s campus gym. Unlike traditional gyms, which offer limited classes in categories, sessions will be held all day. The center will be free for students, staff, and faculty.
Kimberlee Strome, UTHSC Wellness and Yoga Director, said the aim is to help de-stress people working and studying in the medical field.
“It gives them an opportunity to chill out. They may have had a very stressful day, had an argument with someone, seeing a patient they’re worried about, and it just gives them an opportunity to de-stress and be more present,” Kimberlee Strome said.
Strome said the center will also feature a relaxing Zen lounge. If classes aren’t in process, people can use free apps to meditate.
The wellness center expects to open in late fall/early winter.
