WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (localmemphis.com) – A West Memphis man has been charged with the death of a 5-year-old who was shaken as a 3-month-old baby.

Terrence Washington was arrested Tuesday and charged with second-degree murder. Investigators say November 24, 2013, Washington shook the then 3-month-old, causing injuries. The child died December 14, 2018, and the medical examiner determined the death was due to the injuries as an infant.

Williams was previously convicted of first-degree battery in December 2015, and sentenced to 120 months for the original offense. He was released in October 2018.

West Memphis police say the prosecutor determined double jeopardy does not apply since this is now a second-degree murder charge.
