Camera meant to provide security and peace of mind for Mid-South mother was hacked, terrifying the family

Local In MS

A hacker in DeSoto County who claimed to be Santa Claus terrified a young girl, and it was all done on one of those new ring cameras, a device that’s supposed to keep her safe.

A family says someone hacked their Ring camera and started terrorizing her daughter in her own room. Also disturbing in all of this is that a majority of the rest of the video the suspect spends trying to get the girl to say a racial slur.

Ashley LeMay, the girls’ mom, says the Ring camera was only up for a couple of days in her girls’ room when someone found a way to hack it. She bought it as a way to keep an eye on her three girls.

“She was terrorized by somebody through the camera. They didn’t stopped. She screamed for me. You can tell in the video she originally thought it was her dad. Then you can see the look in her eye when she realizes ‘I don’t know who this is.,’” said LeMay.

The family is in the process of returning the camera and plans to donate the money they receive back.
