MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – You’ll soon need a different type of identification to travel: a Real ID.
The Real ID is designed to make driver’s licenses harder to forge by requiring proof of U.S. residency.
You don’t have to get the upgraded driver’s license, but starting October 2020, a real ID will be required to fly on airplanes, as well as enter federal building buildings or military bases.
“The decision to get a Real ID is strictly up to you. You do not have to get one,” says Lori Bullard, Assistant Commissioner of Driver Services. “If you have a passport, if you have other TSA-acceptable documents, you do not need to get a real ID license.”
The Real ID will available in Tennessee starting next month. Learn more HERE.
