Police in Oxford, Mississippi, are asking for help in finding the suspect in an assault and attempted kidnapping.

It happened Saturday, October 20th at about 8:00 p.m. along Van Buren Avenue near South 5th Street. A woman told police she was grabbed from behind by a man but was able to fight him off. She ran to a nearby home and called 911.

Police say the suspect ran west on Van Buren Avenue towards the Ford Center parking lot, where he got into a newer model white car and took off.

Police released a picture of a ball cap, which they believe may be key to identifying the suspect, and the car involved. The suspect is described as a white man, about 5’11” tall. He was wearing a dark-colored zip-up jacket, orange or red shirt, khakis, and the tan cap in the picture with the blue Costa Del Mar symbol.

Police say several other vehicles were driving through the lot at the time, and they are asking anyone who was there between 7:45 p.m. and 8:10 p.m. to give them a call. You may have information that could help solve the case. A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. Call 662-232-2400 with information.
