Local News

An 81-year old woman has been identified as the victim of a deadly robbery in Northeast Memphis.

Memphis Police say the incident happened at about 7 p.m. Sunday at 2172 Forest Hill Court at the Sycamore Lake Apartments.

According to MPD, 81-year old Catherine Wicker was getting out of a car when a man driving an older model Chevrolet Malibu (silver or beige in color) approached her and grabbed her purse.  Wicker began yelling and struggling with the suspect.  The suspect ran to his car when a witness intervened.  He backed up ramming the victim’s car, then pulled forward hitting Wicker, pinning her against another car.  Wicker fell under the car and was dragged several feet.  The suspect rammed another vehicle, backed over the victim, then left the complex.

Wicker was taken to Regional One Hospital where she later died.

Around 8:27 p.m. Bartlett Police found a beige 2003 Chevrolet Malibu 5000 block of Bartlett Grove Rd.  It is unknown at this time if this is the suspect vehicle.

This is an ongoing investigation.  No one is in custody at this time.

This marks the second homicide of 2017.
