Local News

COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. ( Local 24’s very own Caitlin McCarthy and Rebecca Butcher helped emcee the Aga Khan Foundation Walk-Run in Collierville Sunday.

The event raises awareness and funds for programs that mobilize communities around the world to build better futures.

Contributions help send girls in Afghanistan to school, assist farm families in West Africa to improve nutrition and help small businesses in Central Asia get on their feet.

Organizers say all that giving starts right here in Memphis.

“We live in such a great area a great part of the country its always important to be able to give back to the local community there’s a lot of folks that are in need and as you know being in the community you gotta be able to help out our neighbors in our community it starts at home,” said Ali Hasham, a volunteer for AKF Walk, Run in Memphis.

Volunteers also collected cans for the Mid-South Food Bank and a blood drive tent was set up for donations.

The AKF cultivates partnerships with businesses in 30 countries around the world.
