B.B. King’s daughter fights guitar auction

Local News

CNN Newsource – One of the daughters of the late blues legend B. B. King is up in arms over the upcoming auction of one of his guitars.

The estimated worth of the guitar — which he played later in life — is between $80,000 and $100,000.

King nicknamed it, and other guitars he played, “Lucille.” It and other items in his estate go up for auction in September.

There have been legal battles over King’s estate among his 15 children.

Daughter Shirley King strongly opposes the auction of the guitar and says she’s not looking for money.

“This is fighting words to say you’re going to take something that exclusive of my father’s and just put it in somebody’s hands that’s going to try to get more money.” “If I had my way, they would go in museums worldwide,” said Shirley King, B.B. King’s daughter.

King’s trust has the final say on the auction. A trustee said a majority of King’s children and grandchildren are in favor of the auction.
