Brooks Museum Management Hopes Saturday Event Will Help Shape Move To Downtown Memphis

Local News

A longtime staple of Memphis is gearing up for a major change. The 101-year old Brooks Museum of Art is holding a big community event Saturday, while working to move to downtown Memphis.

The Brooks management wants to keep the experience in the new location as authentic as possible, so they want public input. They hope the family event will get more people to see what the museum has to offer.

The executive director says the move is part of a bigger project underway along the river.

“The Brooks is part of a much larger vision of the reimagining of Mississippi River front,” said Emily Neff, Executive Director of the Brooks Museum of Art. “They called for a cultural anchor or cultural amenity to anchor that juncture of the river front.”

Saturday’s Chalkfest festival will allow local artists to turn the museum plaza into a colorful canvas. Activities run from at 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Overton Park.
