Charity Transporting Shelter Pets To New Homes

Local News

Thanks to a charity, more than 110 high risk shelter pets are on their way to new homes.

Wings of Rescue helps overcrowded shelters by transporting animals by plane to areas of the country where shelter pets are in demand.

They teamed up with local animal groups for the program, including Memphis Animal Services, to help out animals in overcrowded shelters.

“Spring and summer are our worst seasons for intake because there’s a lot of new puppies and kitties out there. It’s breeding season,” says Memphis Animal Services director Alexis Pugh. “We’re hoping this is going to offset that increased intake and we’ll be able to maintain the amazing 80% save rate we’ve had for four months straight now.”

This is Wings of Rescue’s third flight this year in the mid-south. Including Tuesday’s flight, more than 600 animals in the mid-south have been saved by Wings of Rescue.
