A popular car sharing program is expanding in Memphis thanks to a partnership with Christian Brothers University.
Zipcar already has locations in downtown Memphis and Cooper Young. Their new partnership with Christian Brothers University will allow students to rent a car on campus twenty-four hours a day.
The program is environmentally friendly, cutting back on the number of cars on campus, but school leaders say the biggest benefit is exposing their students to the larger community.
“People who don’t have vehicles and want to get into the community, but don’t necessarily have a ride. They can come get the Zipcar, go into the Memphis area. Explore all the attractions. Graceland. Things of that nature. FedExForum. Go to Target. Whatever they need to do to get into the community,” says Chad Lassiter, recreation coordinator for Christian Brothers University.
The Zipcar program at Christian Brothers University will also be available to the public.
The official unveiling will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Christian Brothers University Learning and Living Center. There will also be refreshments and giveaways at the event. The public is invited to attend.
