Some Memphis teams brought the heat this weekend at the 901 Popper Throwdown. It’s a heated competition where Mid-Southerners put their jalapeno popper cooking skills to the test.
Nine teams compete from barbecue to slow cooking, to see what it takes to make the best popper.
“Last night we marinated them in crockpot slow cooked them with some beet and today we’re going to put them on the grill make up some sour cream stuff it in a pepper top it with cheese and serve it that way,” said Dirk Tully of the Paddy O’Burger Team.
The throwdown competition benefits Memphis Paws, a group that supports animal rescue groups.
