RIDGELAND, Miss. (localmemphis.com) – A police officer’s dance-off in Mississippi has gone viral, and the encounter changed one young woman’s life.
It started when Ridgeland police thought they were headed to stop a fight at a park. When they got there, the teens were just dancing. one officer just couldn’t resist joining them.
“As African Americans in Mississippi, you tend to see the negative side of the police force because that really opened my eyes,” said Taylor Akharume with the JiggaMississippi Crew.
“Officers are human. We love our community, and we love our citizens and we are involved,” said the dancing officer, Lazarius Thomas.
Officer Thomas says he’s no stranger to crumping and break-dancing. he’s been doing it since he was six years old.
