MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – The smell of barbeque is in the air as the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest kicked off its famous competition in Downtown Memphis.
Hundreds of teams are set up at Tom Lee Park all fighting for bragging rights. There is special flavor this year, because the theme is the Memphis Bicentennial.
Teams have come from across the country and around the world to test their skill on the grill. Over the next 4 days, 250 teams will season up and grill everything from ribs to shoulders and anything else you can think of on a pig’s anatomy.
This competition has been recognized as a world class competition, so the bragging rights mean just as much as the share of the $115,000 prize purse.
