Democrat Gubernatorial Candidate Craig Fitzhugh Makes Stop In Mid-South

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - One candidate vying to be your next Tennessee Governor says he's working to stay on top of a controversial bill in the legislature requiring licenses to braid hair in Tennessee.

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Craig Fitzhugh says the idea is not good for the state of Tennessee.

Many in Memphis took their concerns to Nashville this year, and the bill was thrown out, but the fight is not over.

“If you're a citizen and you come to a place that says natural hair, you want somebody that has training in natural hair. You don't just want somebody to put up a sign and charge you money,” said Fitzhugh. “We need minimum requirements, so the public can be assured of their safety and their money's worth.”

State Representative Antonio Parkinson invited Fitzhugh to talk to students, because he says it's important for a future Governor to understand the industry, so supporters have a voice when the issue goes back before the legislature.
