DeSoto Central High Band Will Make History At NYC’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Local News

A high school band from Southaven is preparing to do something no other band from Mississippi has done before. They will be marching in New York City’s St. Patrick’s Day parade.

DeSoto Central High’s band will be the first marching band from Mississippi to march in the oldest parade in our nation. The parade committee asked the band to apply.

They will join more than 300 bands, groups, and floats for Friday’s parade. We talked to students about the experience.

“Especially for it being my first time to go to New York and with people I care about, yes, I’ll remember this,” says drum major Morgan Woodard.

“We just bring the show to life and like parades to make it more interesting. It’s a lot of fun,” says color guard member Gianna Bartolotta.

The band will board buses Wednesday morning for New York. While in the Big Apple, they will also do some sightseeing and see some Broadway shows.
