DESOTO CO., Miss. (localmemphis.com) – With only a couple of weeks left before the start of school, more than half of children are not registered to attend DeSoto County Schools.

Out of 34,000 students, more than 25,000 still need to register. The deadline is July 31st. DeSoto County Schools starts August 7th.

“We were averaging a hundred a day this time last year. Now 60 to 80 a day. So, I do feel like it’s still lagging. School supplies are out. People get it now. School starts August the 7th,” said Melissa Green with DeSoto County Schools.

The district office in Hernando is open 7:30am until 4:30pm Monday through Friday. Schools are open 8am until 2pm daily.
