Fall-Out Continues Over Tennessee State Representative Mark Lovell’s Resignation

Local News

Fall-out continues tonight over Tennessee state representative Mark Lovell’s sudden resignation from office.

Lovell was facing allegations he inappropriately touched a female staffer during and after hours legislative event. Lovell says he’s innocent.

Since Lovell resigned, there will be no further investigation into the alleged misconduct.

However, state senator Lee Harris of Memphis says he want a probe into a statement made by Lovell during an interview with Local 24 regarding who told him to resign.

“I had someone accuse me of some kind of misconduct. My first words were, that’s just not true. and then I get a phone call from the Republican leadership and they just basically said look, it doesn’t matter if its true or not. You’re going to get drug through the mud and so is the Republican party,” said Lovell on Tuesday.

Harris told Local 24 that he thinks it’s inappropriate for Republican leadership to try to persuade someone to resign in order to avoid a potentially embarrassing investigation.

Local 24 attempted to contact several Republicans in both the state house and senate including members of the Shelby county delegation. No one was available for a comment.
