A Mid-South father has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting that killed his two-year-old daughter.
Mikal Grogan, father of two-year-old Anaya Boyd, is charged with aggravated child neglect and aggravated child endangerment.
Memphis Police say the shooting occurred in Fox Meadows at the Enclave Apartments off Hickory Hill Road shortly after 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. The little girl was shot in the head.
According to the affidavit, Grogan told police he sold marijuana out of his apartment and was shooting dice prior to the shooting. He told police he heard a knock at the door, and when he asked who it was, someone started firing through the door. Grogan told police another person in the apartment with him started firing a pistol at the door, emptying the magazine, then grabbed a rifle and continued firing. Police say Grogan told them he knew the other person was armed.
According to the affidavit, Grogan also told police another person had two pounds of marijuana in the apartment. Police say Grogan knowingly placed his daughter in danger by exposing her to gambling, drugs, and violence.
There is no word yet on who fired the gun. No one has been charged with Boyd’s death.
