MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com)- A former Tennessee legislator,who was disbarred as an attorney is now facing theft and impersonation charges.
Police arrested Bretran Thompson earlier this week.
According to an arrest warrant, Thompson told a woman he would draw up a testamentary letter and charged her $1,500 to get the process started.
The woman wired him another $2,900 for attorney fees.
In May, she was notified by the Board of Professional Responsibility that Thompson has been disbarred, and she then told authorities about the money she gave him.
Thompson served in the Tennessee General Assembly as the representative of House District 84 in the 98th General Assembly from 1993 to 1994.
