The principal at Trezevant high school has resigned, and he has a lot to say on his way out about the school’s athletic program.
Ronnie Mackin detailed allegations in a scathing resignation letter.
The letter was sent to Shelby County school board members this week. The letter is getting a lot of attention.
Ronnie Mackin claims to have uncovered multiple incidents of illegal and unethical wrongdoings.
He says he was told by SCS leaders not to comment on any of it.
Now that he’s a former employee of the district, his 6-page letter tells his story of scandal and coverup at Trezevant High.
Mackin alleges a culture of grade changing and illegal payments from the former head football coach to parents to keep their kids at Trezevant though they were failing academically.
Chief Legal Council for SCS Rodney Moore said, “Should any evidence support wrongdoing by any employee we certainly want that information brought to the light so that he or she may be appropriately disciplined up to and including termination.”
Mackin says that he reported all the claims in his letter during the 2016-17 school year, but got little results.
