MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris hosted a free prom for people 60 and older Monday night.
The glam squad gave people a makeover at the Goodwill Homes Senior Center Monday afternoon before they attended the prom. Shelby County leaders say they are excited to celebrate the seniors.
“Seniors brought this idea to Shelby County government. They have been talking to us for a while about more activities for seniors, particularly activities in the evenings, activities where they can socialize,“ said Mayor Harris.
Shelby County Commissioner Mickell Lowery added, “It’s been the prom season. We’ve seen the high school kids go to prom, and now it’s time for our seniors to go to prom.“
The prom included food, prizes, and live music for the seniors to dance the night away. Mayor Harris said the event was sponsored by several local organizations.
