Jackie Sourek and her family are enjoying the fact that a fitness trend that started in Oregon and went nuts online is now at her farm in Rossville. It’s Yoga with goats and this Saturday Jackie will be among many sweating it out and getting fit with the goats.

“Its light hearted fun, said Jackie Sourek, “the goats and outdoor country setting make the class unique and relaxing. It’s a nice break from life.”

Jackie says her friends encouraged her to hold the class that’s exploded in Oregon and making its way across the country. Jackie and her family own Jamison Woods Farms in Roseville and own a herd of Norwegian Dwarf Goats, along with a lot of space in the serene countryside and an experienced Yoga Instructor, Becca Jones.

“We have the perfect space in our front yard, a herd of cute and cuddly dwarf goats and a fantastic Yoga teacher, so we thought the classes would be a great idea,” says Sourek

So what is a Yoga Goat Class really like? She says, “Before class begins, a herd of Nigerian Dwarf goats are brought up from the barn. They play on hay bales and snack on treats, interacting with the participants.”The goats are really friendly. They’ll come to your mat to check you out, especially if you have a treat for them,” said Sourek. “We have goats of all ages, including baby goats.”Participants are encouraged to pet and mingle with the animals during class.

Studies have suggested that animal interaction is therapeutic, lowering blood pressure, raising dopamine levels and reducing anxiety.”These goats will make you smile,” said Sourek. “Who is not going to laugh as they try to hold a yoga pose with a goat nosing you?”

Everyone is  welcome at goat yoga, no matter your level of experience. Currently, classes are for 18 years and older, but Sourek has suggested that a children’s class may be on the horizon.”If the class takes off, we’ll definitely consider hosting more classes and more specific classes, like a children’s class or advanced yoga,” said Sourek. The classes cost $10 per person. Don’t forget to bring extra cash for farm fresh eggs or goat milk soap.vent
