Girl Raped In Orange Mound Walking Home From School

MEMPHIS, Tenn (localmemphis.com) - Police are investigating the rape of a juvenile while walking home from school in Orange Mound, Monday.

 

Investigators are calling what happened in this abandoned house in the 3100 block of Radford Road a criminal assault.

 

The victim told police she was forced to walk to the house at knife point from the area around Melrose High School around 4:30 pm.

 

Neighbors are disturbed over what happened here, but not surprised.

 

"I don't know who it was, who she was. I hate that it happened," said a neighbor who didn't want to be identified. "Yeah, it can happen here or anywhere else."  

 

Police are looking for a man with dark complexion, a beard and mustache in his early 20's. 

 

They say he was last seen wearing a black hoodie and sweat pants and gold shoes.

The safety of our students is always our number one priority and we are thankful for the strong partnerships we have with the Memphis Police Department and Shelby County Sheriff’s Office to help keep our school communities safe.  MPD has already increased support in the neighborhood surrounding Melrose High.  In addition, school staff members have shared important safety reminders with students and families to be extra vigilant in the community.
