Governor’s Inn on Mt. Moriah has been closed as a public nuisance, according to the Memphis Police Department.

MPD says its Organized Crime Unit responded to almost 60 complaint calls about criminal activity at the hotel from March 2017 to September 2018. They say the reports ranged from robberies and rape, to prostitution and drugs.

About 20 people were arrested in that time on or near the hotel property. MPD says at least eight of those had active warrants for their arrest.

MPD says the Shelby County Attorney General’s Office reviewed the case in January, and the criminal court granted a writ of injunction declaring the hotel a public nuisance.

The hotel’s owner is set to appear in court February 19th.

MPD says the hotel was closed once before in May 2014 following complaints of robberies, assaults, thefts, and drugs.
