MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - Although the school year is already underway, it's never too late to give students some much-needed school supplies.
Dozens of backpacks and supplies were given to students at Hawkins Mill Elementary Wednesday. Kroger donated the bags full of goodies to each student at the school, from Pre-K through 5th grades.
Hawkins Mill Principal Claude Wilson says this act of kindness shows the students that their community cares about them.
"One thing that we understand is that it does take a village to raise a child, and making sure we have all state quarters involved in the process of learning, so we can continue to make our students better today and successful tomorrow, will ultimately get our students college and career here in Memphis and also the Frayser community,” says Wilson.
Wilson says his students were very excited about getting the backpacks, and that his staff is thankful for the extra help in the classroom.
