Helena-West Helena Police Investigators have identified three suspects who were involved in a recent shooting and brutal attack that left a victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the groin area.

Virgil Green, Chief of Police with the Helena-West Helena Police Department, stated: “On March 21, 2017, officers responded to a shooting call in the 500 block of E. Garland in West Helena.”

Responding officers found 33-year-old Danny Johnson, laying in the area.

Officers noticed Johnson had been severally beaten and quickly discovered Johnson had been shot in the lower groin area.

Pafford transported Johnson to Helena Regional Hospital, where he was later airlifted to a hospital in Memphis, TN.

Green said, ” Investigators had very little information about the shooting and attack. “

Initially, Officers were told Johnson had entered a resident unannounced and was attacked by individuals inside the residence.

Investigators during their interviews determined Johnson hadn’t gone into the home as stated by those inside the house.

Chief Green, said,  “Once Johnson was able to speak with detectives they were able to interview Danny Johnson, who provide more information about what happened on the night of the shooting. “

Johnson was able to identify all three suspects involved in the shooting and attack that happened in the early morning hours on Wednesday, March 21, 2017.

Johnson identified 26-year-old Markee Ross, of Helena-West Helena, 24-year-old Cortez Banks and 25-year-old Michael Rogers AKA( Mike Mike) all of Helena-West Helena.

Green said, ” Investigators haven’t determined a motive for the shooting and brutal attack, other than its case of another random act of violence from several suspects who are repeat offenders,” our agency continues to deal with them.

Green noted on one of the suspects, Markee Ross, who is no stranger to the H-WHPD.

Ross has been a suspect in at least 2 other shootings one occurred back on November 2016. Ross was a suspect in a shooting at a vehicle as it left the Isle of Capri Casino, in Lula, Mississippi.

When the vehicle crossed back over into Helena, Arkansas, Ross opened fire on the car, with several women in it. One was the mother of Ross child.

Ross was later arrested on Felony weapon charges related to that incident, but was able to bond out of jail.

While out on Bond awaiting other criminal charges Ross has been involved in more than six other incidents with the H-WHPD.

“You have a person who has no regard for the law, who continues to participate in criminal activity. Chief Green went on to say that Banks and Rogers, the other two suspects, have extensive criminal records.”

Green stated, “Early Wednesday evening Officer Phillip Keys noticed Cortez Banks in the 300 block of North 6TH Street the officer called for additional officers who responded and Banks was taken into custody without incident.”

Banks’ bond is $650,000. He faces a charge of attempt murder in this case.

Chief Green stated Investigators are looking for Markee Ross and Michael Rogers, AKA Mike Mike.

Both suspects have warrants for attempted murder.  If you see Rogers or Ross you’re asked to call 911 or your local police department or the H-WHPD at (870) 572-3441.
