GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Breonna Allen, a senior at Houston High School, was crowned homecoming queen Friday. She’s a cheerleader, her favorite subject is math, she loves to go bowling, and she has Down syndrome.
“I was the homecoming queen at the homecoming game!” Breonna Allen proudly told Local 24 News. It was a moment she will never forget.
Breonna Allen’s father Jeffrey Allen said she is like most teenagers her age. He said he was “amazed and surprised” when she won, but the students at Houston High School voted for her to be queen.
“When I thought about it with the young people she has been in school with at Farmington Elementary all the way to Houston Middle to Houston High school, they’re remarkable young people,” Jeffrey Allen said.
Jeffrey Allen said she is in the special education classes at Houston High School, but through an immersion program she is able to take classes with the rest of her peers. He said education is a priority for his daughter’s future.
“My hope is for her to be the best that she can be,” Jeffrey Allen said. “We still have a ways to go with education. There are a few things that I want her achieve, but I really her to pick out what part of life that she wants to achieve.”
Allen said his daughter has a bright future, and she dreams of becoming a model or working with kids. He always reminds her that the sky is the limit.
“I want her to be successful, and so far I think she has been,” Jeffrey Allen said.
