Hundreds pack banquet hall at University of Memphis to enjoy charity roast and toast of Otis Sanford

Local News

MEMPHIS, Tenn. ( – In tonight’s Ransom Note, you know you’ve gotten somewhere in life when someone has a roast in your honor. Local 24 News was proud to be the media sponsor for a roast and toast on the U of M campus to honor our political commentator, Otis Sanford.

When you have a 40-year career as a reporter like Otis does, it gives folks plenty of opportunity to have some fun, and they did.

Former Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam, University of Memphis President Dr. M. David Rudd, Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland, and Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris to name a few. They all roasted Otis with some great lines, but they all toasted a man whose integrity and respect is well-earned.

Even better is who was helped by the sold-out event. Proceeds go toward Her Faith Ministries, a wonderful non-profit which helps homeless women and children in Memphis. It was an honor to serve as emcee, and is an honor to call Otis a coworker and friend.
