More than one dozen iZone Shelby County schools are succeeding, so much so that 13 schools are moving out of iZone and 12 will now go into the program.
iZone stands for innovation zone. It is a part of Shelby County Schools, designed to move schools from the bottom 5% to the top 25% in the state. Students go to school for an extra hour every day.
The list of schools leaving includes five elementary schools, five middle schools, and three high schools.
Starting next fall, all 12 schools on the state’s priority list that are not already in the iZone will be placed into the program. Plus, the board would consolidate Hamilton Elementary into Hamilton Middle, and split Raleigh Egypt Middle and high into two separate schools.
