MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – A Le Bonheur heart surgeon and professor at University of Tennessee is now being disciplined after investigators say he prescribed drugs to friends he wasn’t treating.
The report on the Tennessee Department of Health’s website says that Dr. Umar Boston is guilty of writing 87 prescriptions to friends between September 2016 and March 2018, without making a diagnosis, performing physical exams, or maintaining a medical record.
The Tennessee Department of Health reprimanded Boston’s license and fined him nearly $22,000.
He must also complete two medical courses on the legal and economic implications for healthcare providers. (READ BOARD ORDER HERE.)
