Tuesday, President Donald Trump said, “I’d love to see a shutdown if we don’t get this stuff taken care of,” referring to immigration.
The President also pointed to the death of NFL player Edwin Jackson as a reason to move forward on his immigration plans. The Colts linebacker died Sunday after a crash with a suspected drunk driver, who police say was in the country illegally and had been deported twice in the past.
Immigration was also front and center at a White House roundtable Tuesday on a violent latino gang known as MS13. The President said the gang has 10,000 members in the U.S., all because of loopholes in immigration laws.
White House Chief of Staff John Kelly also made news Tuesday for referring to immigrants as lazy for failing to register under the DACA program.
Local 24’s Richard Ransom spoke with an immigration expert, Dr. Jennifer Sciubba, a professor at Rhodes College, on Local 24 News at 10PM Tuesday.
