MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com)- A local church dedicated their Sunday services to educators and students of all levels as they prepare for a new school year.
Christ Church Memphis held its annual Blessing of the Backpacks in East Memphis Sunday morning.
The community came together to pray and bless those involved in starting the new school year.
Leaders at the church say prayer for students and teachers is necessary so they know they aren’t alone.
Dr. Shane Stanford, the senior pastor at Christ Church, said “We want to pray for them (teachers) and pray for parents, and pray that school will not be something that they want to push back on, but it becomes an experience as I’ve heard Brian and others say that it becomes a part of who they are, and that they rejoice in that. They have joy in what they do.”
The guests at those services Sunday also brought in school supplies to donate to the church’s partner schools in Binghampton.
