Local Cool Kid: Caleb Owens

The talented student musician and athlete earned a perfect score on the ACT

DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. (localmemphis.com) - "Whatever he does, it's going to be all in," said Chris Fleming, Principal at Lewisburg High. "Best effort every day-- in swimming, band, in class, community service."

With over a thousand students, it can be hard to stand out. So how does Caleb Owens do it?

"I really don't have an answer to that question," said Owens.

The answer is not that simple.

The modest and well-rounded teen is one of six students in DeSoto County schools to earn a 36, a perfect score, on the ACT.

It’s a test he's planning to take again over the weekend to increase his chances of winning a $24,000 Star Student scholarship.

"Last year, the top three students had perfect ACT scores," said Owens.

The well-rounded teen is also the swim captain at LHS, plays trombone in the band, and volunteers, serving his community.

All of this preparation today is helping him for tomorrow's dreams.

"Whatever Caleb does, he's good at it," said Fleming.
