Local Cool School: Germanshire Elementary

Local News
You are never too young to make a difference. That’s the lesson we learned from students at Germanshire Elementary. Nearly 900 Pre-K through 5th graders at the school are working to raise $10,000 dollars for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. And that makes them our Local Cool School.

“They are helping other children to have a second chance in their life,” said Kaliah Mays, a fifth grade student at the school.

Students are working to beat the amount of money they raised last year, which was $10,000. Last Friday, students wore ‘Jerseys for Cancer.’ This kicked-off their year-long effort to help St. Jude.

“We’re helping them get the food they eat and the treatment they need,” said Mary Davenport, a fifth-grader at Germanshire.

For a donation of just a dollar or two, students and their teachers wear a jersey from their favorite team or support their favorite cause, with all the money going to St. Jude for one mission.

“So the doctors can find a cure,’ said X’Zavier White, a fifth-grader at Germanshire.

“It makes me feel good that other kids are helping out the children that are sick,” said Yasmine Thompson a fifth-grader at Germanshire.
