MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com)- Young patients at Baptist Memorial Women’s and Children’s Hospitals in East Memphis spent much of their “Afternoon with Santa” Sunday.
In fact, that’s the name of the event which is aimed at lifting the spirits of children stuck in the hospital over the holidays.
The staff hosted a huge holiday bash filled with lots of snacks, crafts and some time with Santa for photos and Christmas wish lists.
Hospital employees say the event is important to keep young patients in good spirits while undergoing treatments, especially because some of them won’t be able to go home for the holidays.
“Because you’ve got to give them a home away from home that they aren’t able to be at home right now during the holidays,” said Jessica Roe, a pediatric nurse. “So we like to decorate as you can see and just give the kids something to bring a smile to their face since they can’t be at home.”
This is the second year for Baptist’s “Afternoon with Santa” event.
