Local kids attend 16th Annual Junior Fishing Rodeo

Local News

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com)- Children across the Mid-South got the chance to enjoy some sun and great fishing Saturday.

Fishers from ages 5 to 13 grabbed their fishing rods and cast their lines during the 16th Annual Junior Fishing Rodeo at the Agricenter’s Catch’em Lakes.

A 24-inch, 5 1/2-pound catfish was the biggest catch of the day.

Awards were also given out to the angler who caught the most fish, which was 26.

The winner says his secret to success is using chicken livers as bait.

Leaders say it’s a fun way to get kids out and into the wild.

“It’s a lot of fun have little guys like this right here that are out here with us today all the way up to 13 years to 13 years adults were helping them a little bit along the way and but lot lot lot of fun,” said John Charles Wilson, President Emeritus of Agricenter International.

Door prizes were handed out to the kids, and there was also a bike raffle.

Donations given during the event will go towards agriculture education programs.
