MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com)- More than a dozen young men took to the football field to enhance their skills in a free football camp on Sunday.
The first Memphis Soldiers Football Camp was hosted at the Greenhill Stadium in Frayser.
The goal was to improve academics, behavior and athletics through positive mentoring and coaching.
The camp was started by a man who saw the program was a great need to Memphis.
“I come from Wilmington, Delaware we had the same program in Wilmington, Delaware. We took a group of kids to National Championships many of those kids are in college now, many of those kids received private school education for free that’s the same opportunities we want to bring here to Memphis,” said creator Robert Baldwin.
The program had 17 boys to participate in the free camp this year.
Baldwin hopes to increase the turnout for years to come.
