Man accused of firing shots inside downtown Memphis hotel makes first court appearance

UPDATE 4/22/2019 – 26-year-old Alexander Kahmann made his first court appearance by video Monday morning.

The hearing was reset to Tuesday, and he remains behind bars on $300,000 bond.


UPDATE 4/19/2019 – 9:00 a.m. – 26-year-old Alexander Kahmann is in custody.

MPD officers on patrol in the area of Lamar and Bellevue spotted him and was able to arrest him.

Kahman has been taken to an area hospital for an injury due to punching a glass door at the Hilton Garden Inn.


UPDATE 4/19/2019 – 8:30 a.m. – MPD has identified the man who fired shots inside the Hilton Garden Inn in downtown Memphis.

He is 26-year-old Alexander Kahmann from Chicago.  He is believed to be traveling through Memphis with a family member headed to California.

One gun has been found on the scene. It is unknown if Kahmann is still armed.

If you see this suspect do not approach him. Call 911 immediately and provide the location of where he was seen.


MEMPHIS, Tenn. ( – Memphis police are looking for the man who fired shots inside a downtown Memphis hotel early Friday morning.

The incident happened around 3 a,m. at the Hilton Garden Inn on Union across from AutoZone Park.

According to MPD, a man walked into the lobby of the hotel asking for information about a guest.  Following hotel protocol, the employee did not give him the information he was asking for.  When he didn’t get the information, he got upset, firing multiple rounds inside the lobby.

No injuries have been reported.

The suspect, who is 20-30 years old, wearing a black shirt and black pants, carrying a camouflage backpack, ran from the scene on foot.

MPD says, the suspect’s backpack has been found, but, officers are still looking for the shooter.
