Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting Corpse Released from Jail

Local News

A now former security guard accused of having sex with a corpse while working security for an East Memphis Hospital is out of Jail tonight.

Jail records show Cameron Wright paid and $3,000 bond and was free to leave 201 Poplar.

The victim’s family told Local 24 they are disgusted by the whole ordeal.

“There are no words,” said James Parham Sr. “I thought she was at peace after she died that night and they covered her up and then rolled her down to the morgue to do what they had to do. I thought she was at peace then. I found out she wasn’t in peace.”

The man accused of having sex with their daughter’s corpse is Cameron Wright.

April Parham’s family said they are still searching for answers after receiving a call from a St. Francis staff member and investigators saying there had been an assault against their daughter April’s body.

The family shared photos of their 37-year-old to let people know what a beautiful person she was.

“She was full of life,” said her father James.

The family told Local 24 the kindergarten teacher died from an apparent heart attack while receiving treatment for her mental health. She was reportedly an organ donor but before that process could begin, a court affidavit said hospital security guard Cameron Wright assaulted her corpse inside a body storage room.

“He needs to do some time,” said Sheila Parham. “This is just tragic for us. You will never understand.”

Local 24 has learned Wright worked for U.S. Security Associates. A spokesperson said the 23-year-old has no prior criminal history and that, “no one could have anticipated the criminal conduction in which the officer engaged.”

St. Francis said the officer was terminated. His state license has been suspended.

“We’re going to get through this,” said April’s mother. “Our baby is up there in heaven and I know she is with the Lord and her grandparents. She’s smiling down on us and justice will be served.”

Local 24 has since learned the family has retained the services of the law firm Horne & Wells.
