Man Charged In Deadly Shooting In Southeast Shelby County

UPDATE 1/5/2018: The suspect, Michael Taylor, was booked on charges of second degree murder, violation of order of protection, illegal possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm during commission of a dangerous felony.

Investigators say Taylor admitted to getting into an armed confrontation with Maalik Smith. They say Taylor told them he was shot once in the leg by Smith, and he fired back several times then took off. Taylor was treated at Regional One before being booked.


Update: The victim has been identified as Maalik Smith, according to SCSO.


The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly shooting in southeast Shelby County.

Deputies were called to the 5300 block of Annandale Drive Wednesday just before 10 p.m.

The 21-year-old victim, who had been shot multiple times, was found on the front porch by his mother.

He was taken to Regional One Hospital in extremely critical condition, where he later died.

There are no suspects at this time.  This is an ongoing investigation.
