Man charged in deadly store shooting on Highway 64

53-year-old Timothy Saunders has been charged with First Degree Murder in Thursday’s shooting death at American Freight Furniture and Mattress on Highway 64.

According to a police affidavit, the victim has been identified as Thomas Hartman, the store manager.


Memphis Police are investigating after a deadly shooting at a business on Highway 64.

It happened about 12:30 p.m. Thursday at American Freight Furniture and Mattress in the 7800 block of Highway 64. Investigators say one person was shot by a known suspect. The victim died at the scene.

Police tell Local 24 News that a delivery driver and a store manager got into an argument over delivery times. They say the driver went back to his truck, got a gun, then shot the manager.

We are told the suspect left the scene in an 18-wheeler, which was stopped near I-40. The suspected shooter has been detained. Investigators say the suspect is a contract worker and not an employee of American Freight.
