Man Charged In Idaho Stabbings Has Ties To Memphis

Local News

Local 24 News is talking to the family of a Memphis man accused of a deadly stabbing at a child’s birthday party in Idaho.

Police in Boise, Idaho say 30-year-old Timmy Kinner, killed a three-year-old girl during her party.  Investigators say his vicious attack, he injured five other kids and three adults.

Kinner has ties to Memphis.  His grandmother, Rethea Kinner tells Local 24 News she was shocked at the charges her grandson is facing.  She talked to him two weeks ago and says he was just released from prison and was in Boise looking for a job.

“We saw him saying bad words and killing and stabbing our friends,” said two young kids who witnessed the horrific attack.

The victims were refugees from Syria, Iraq and Ethiopia.  Kinner grew up in this Orange Mound home.

“I thought he didn’t do it, that’s what my first thought was, it shocked me,” Kinner’s grandmother explained.

According to Boise Police, Kinner was staying with a woman at an apartment where the attack happened.  The woman says she became concerned with his behavior and asked him to leave.  He did but returned the next day in a fit of rage.

“Make me feel bad upset me,” Kinner’s grandmother said.

Kinner’s family says he graduated from Hamilton High School in 2005, but afterwards went on a downward spiral with multiple convictions for Sexual Battery, Robbery, Drugs and Guns.

Court records show a pattern of violence even in jail.  He was brought to court Monday in a wheelchair for security reasons.

Kinner’s grandmother says she raised him and didn’t know him to be a violent person.  She just talked to him on the phone weeks before the violent attack.

“Been about a couple of weeks ago. Reporter: And how was that conversation, how did it go?  Kinner: He was doing good, they say he was looking for a job. That’s the last time I talked to him.”

Kinner faces charges including murder, aggravated battery and injury to a child.  Boise Police are asking anyone who has had contact with Kinner in recent weeks or months to contact them.
