A 43-year-old man was shot and killed after a standoff at a Rutherford County home Wednesday night.

Rutherford County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the home in the Cascade subdivision near Walter Hill around 9:30 p.m. for a domestic disturbance.

“They learned an armed man was in the house with three potential hostages,” said Rutherford County Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh.

Two people got out of the home but a third was unable to leave due to medical reasons, according to the Rutherford County Sheriff.

The Sheriff’s Office reported the agency’s crisis team began to negotiate with the man, who exited the brandishing a firearm after about an hour of negotiations.

“The man is deceased. Our deputies were not harmed,” said Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh.

The man’s identity was not immediately released.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the investigation.
