(MEMPHIS ANIMAL SERVICES NEWS RELEASE) – Memphis Animal Services announced today that dog and cat adoption fees will be reduced to just $20 through September 17 for “Fantasy Furball,” an adoption promotion for all those Mid-Southerners excited about the start of football season.
“Football—whether it’s high school, college, or pro—gets people excited,” said Alexis Pugh, MAS director. “If we could generate half that excitement and passion for saving lives at MAS, we would have a shelter full of empty kennels!”
MAS has all-star draftees for every position from linebarker and wide fur-ceiver to water boy and bench warmer. Adopters should come select their first-round pick before they’re intercepted!
Memphis Animal Services has seen a 27 percent increase in overall intake in 2019, including a dramatic 45 percent increase in kittens under five months. The shelter is on track to take in more than 11,000 pets this year, compared to 8,939 in 2018. Despite the intake increase, MAS has saved 91 percent of the pets in their care.
“As the only open-intake shelter in Memphis, we’re all these animals have. We can’t stop taking new animals even when we’re full, because the animals out there need us,” said Pugh. “And the animals in here need you. Please help us save them.”
Every adoption at Memphis Animal Services includes spay/neuter, microchip, vaccines, heartworm test (and treatment if needed) for dogs, FeLV test for cats, collar and/or leash, and customized ID tag. Adoptions fees are usually $80 for small dogs and puppies/kittens under 5 months and $40 for large adult dogs and adult cats.
Memphis Animal Services, located at 2350 Appling City Cove, is open for adoptions daily from 12-4 p.m. plus until 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Dogs at the shelter are also listed on MAS’s website, www.memphisanimalservices.com.
