Mediation continues regarding the redesign of Tom Lee Park

MEMPHIS, Tenn. ( — We know more about what’s really going on in efforts to mediate the dispute surrounding the redesign of Tom Lee Park.

Negotiations started several weeks ago after the Memphis In May organizers said new proposed changes would prevent them from holding the annual event at the park.

Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland says he’s pleased with how talks are going, and it’s even better with the ten million dollars just added to the project by Governor Bill Lee.

“We worked really hard to get that with the governor’s administration to try and get that into the budget, and we’re very excited about it. Also, by the way, the mediation between both parties is working out really well. The ten million dollars will accelerate it,” said Strickland.

Mayor Strickland says he’s optimistic about a compromise, pointing out the situation is similar to the parking controversy between the Memphis Zoo and Overton Park.
